Beautifully expressed tho I was never a big Biden fan, I had been tremendously impressed with the amount of legislation he was able to get passed and I felt momentarily shocked when he finally announced.

Sometime in the future it may be admitted that he had lost a good portion of young people and BIPOC folks over his refusal to see Palestinian children as full human beings. He lost many of us as we watched children suffer and die in real time.

I hope Kamala can turn the page on that but for now her laugh, her vigor, her energy has infected most of us with hope and scared the bejesus out of Trump.

I agree about Joe and Palestine. My sister and I were afraid he was giving away the presidency.

I can almost feel the vibrancy from Kamala. The pictures here have her with a huge smile on her face--absolutely gorgeous.

Wonderful post, Sara. I, too, hope that Biden can have further successes in his last 6 months as president. We will watch closely, how a good man handles that kind of incumbency. I suspect with tremendous grace.

Am feeling thrilled at how democrats have come together quickly behind Harris, even though it's been orchestrated behind the scenes. Just to have hope rekindled, that flame relit, is invigorating.

Wow, Sara—you hit this one out of the park! Thank you for this illuminating perspective on Biden. I too share your fear that the misogyny runs too deep here, and fear of the MAGA crowd is very strong in my area, such that I am only seeing down-ticket signs for Democrats and many Trump signs for the other side, same as last election—and the last election there was definitely a menacing bullying vibe so Biden supporters were reluctant to put signs out. I’m reluctant to put a sign out, and here we are now. There is new excitement brewing however around Harris and women’s rights and yet misogyny is very powerful. Thank you again for your gift of expression.

Thanks Basha. Everyone is telling me about the excitement. How wonderful. I'm volunteering with Democrats abroad and it would be fabulous to have that excitement.

Oh yes I understand! (Though I also cried a bit when France voted out the far right in Macron's bizarre snap elections.) Though not as much as with Joe. He is a truly, truly great man -- and I'm hoping he goes down in history like a Lincoln.

Though I'm from Berkeley, just a couple of blocks from where Kamala went to elementary school (!), I wasn't a fan of hers during the primaries way back when, nor as a VP choice. (I volunteered for Elizabeth Warren.) But everyone is rallying around her, which is SO encouraging. And look at the disarray of the Trump crew! Ha ha!

Maybe this can be one of Joe Biden's best decisions, to throw it to her. I don't know if she would be a great President, but given the opponent -- a felon -- a fearless prosecutor is perhaps the best choice to run against him. It'll be fun to see her tear him to shreds. I just hope she can withstand the punches in return. Given that she has the entire Dem party behind her, I'm hopeful.

And I hope that Joe Biden will be her #1 advisor if, and I tend now to think WHEN, she gets in.

I'm with Robert Reich in hoping that Mark Kelly is her running mate... and maybe we can finally do something about gun violence... though I expect that having him as her running mate would be perfect for the Trump team to galvanize their base of gun lovers and the NRA ("Harris/Kelly want to take your guns!" -- well, YES... please....)

Just wrote a note praising your wonderful piece and joining you in being sad for Joe and afraid Kamala wouldn't do much better and how I've changed my mind but it all disappeared!! So, short form, I think she'll be perfect. I think I'll live to see a woman president after all. Posting an opinion piece from WP on my newsletter. Bravo, Sara!!
