Ive read the book twice and may well read it again. Most of her experiences are relevant to any creative pursuit, in my case visual art. I think that living a creative life 24/7 is a visceral need for some of us and if you put a lot of work and practice in, one day you might consider yourself a professional. No one gets there without a lot of hard labour.
I read "Eat, Love, Pray" when it came out, Didn't like it at all. Struck me as spiritually lite. But I haven't read Big Magic and maybe I will, after reading your review. I've wanted to be a writer since I was 13 years old and wrote my first short story, but for multiple reasons, excuses, fears, family, I've never gone "all-in". So I took up painting. So now, am I REALLY too old to be all in anything? Another excuse? Or does it really matter at all. Just writing when the spirit moves me, and painting when the spirit moves me? Is there even an answer?
Thanks for the shout out, Sara! I read Big Magic a few years ago. i don't remember my reaction, except that none of it stuck with me. I have a copy on my shelf, so maybe it's time to pull it down again and see if it has wisdom for me at this point in my life. As with everything, when you're ready, you're ready. Until then, the wisdom isn't going to reach you. Good luck with the Olympics invading your universe!

I also started it then stalled! And didn't bring it with me to France. Maybe I'll try the audio.
Or you can borrow mine once I’m back in Paris!!
Thanks. Great advice. I started then stalled but it will come.
