It’s interesting to read your thoughtful perspective especially since I am now in Paris for two weeks and having a nice break from the intensity of US politics. I keep up on French politics in my own way, watching Yann Barthes’ Quotidien tv show periodically (at least I’m familiar with all the political characters in France) but as my French is poor I don’t get the full picture for sure. I have let go of so many illusions in my life, but being here in this fascinating city has nurtured the one again I’ve had all my life about living here one day. I will try to be content with visiting from time to time. Thanks for your writing.

The same questions I'm asking myself. Same stomach -dropping concerns. I returned to the US from Europe after 23 years, and smack into Donald Trump's election No longer the country I grew up in, participated in, worked for. Your writing is well-expressed and readable, thanks so much.

However, I believe the Hemingway generation is called The Greatest Generation. It's actually my generation which is called The Silent Generation. FYI: The Silent Generation is generally defined as people born from 1928 to 1945. By this definition and U.S. Census data, there were 23 million Silents in the United States as of 2019.
